Commemorative event dedicated to the Latvian Righteous Among the Nations
On June 17, at 17.00, the Russian Jewish Congress (RJC) together with the Embassy of the Republic of Latvia in Russia will hold a memorial online event dedicated to the Latvian Righteous Among the Nations. This honorary title, which is awarded by the Israeli memorial complex "Yad Vashem" for saving Jews during the Holocaust, was given to 138 Latvians.
The meeting will be opened by its initiators - President of the Russian Jewish Congress Yuri Kanner and Ambassador of the Republic of Latvia to Russia Māris Riekstiņš, Alex Ben Zvi, the Israeli ambassador to the Russian Federation, Iļja Ļenskis, director of the Museum “Jews in Latvia”, Māris Gailis, founder of the Žanis Lipke Memorial non-governmental organization, Ilana Ivanova, director of the Liepaja Jewish Heritage Foundation, daughter of Jews rescued by Roberts Seduls and Johanna Sedula. The online evening is hosted by Mikhail Gurevich, a journalist, member of the Public Council of the REC.
