 Events devoted to the 450th anniversary of the Jewish community in Latvia and to the 70th anniversary of the beginning of the Holocaust

18:00 – 19:00 Unveiling of the photo exhibition “Keyveroves: The Graves of Our Fathers. Jewish Cemeteries in East Central Europe”
The exhibition brings together pictures from Jewish cemeteries of Latvia, taken in 2010 by Latvian Jewish youths as part of the Lo Tishkach project, and from the regions of Transylvania, Bukovina, Ruthenia and Galicia, taken in the 1970s by an Auschwitz survivor, journalist Lajos Erdelyi, who will be present at the ceremony.
In cooperation with the Hungarian Cultural Institute in Tallinn and the Embassy of Hungary in Latvia.

The plaque is to remind about the long and rich history of the current park, that for more than two hundred years served as a burial ground for Riga Jewish community until being razed during the Soviet rule.

Outdoors session: Jews in Kurzeme
Trip to Jewish heritage sites in Kurzeme, including synagogues, cemeteries and mass graves, and a lecture on Jewish history and culture of the region in the newly reconstructed former Great Synagogue of Kuldiga.
In cooperation with Kuldiga municipality, Riga Jewish Youth Center, museum “Jews in Latvia”, and with support of Genesis Foundation–CAF Russia.

14:00 – 15:30 Presentation of A. Bergman’s book “Notes of an Untermensch”
Alexander Bergman is a prominent Latvian lawyer and public figure, in 1941-1945 a prisoner of Riga ghetto, Kaiserwald and Buchenwald concentration camps. This autobiographical book is an eyewitness account of the fate of Riga's Jews during the Holocaust.
Alexander Bergman will be present at the event.
In cooperation with Latvian society “Friends of the Jewish People” and Embassy of Germany in Latvia.

16:00 – 17:30 Presentation of E. Anders’s book “Among Latvians during the Holocaust”
Astrophysicist Dr. Edward Anders is a long-time professor at the University of Chicago, member of the United States National Academy of Sciences and an active public figure. This memoir tells the story of him and his mother managing to survive in Nazi-occupied Liepaja, and reflects the ambivalence of Latvian-Jewish relations of the era.
In cooperation with the Museum of the Occupation of Latvia.
